Introducing our Sales Manager, Magnus! With Jobtip AS since its start in 2020, Magnus has journeyed from Account Manager to Sales Leader, bringing a wealth of experience and insights along the way. We sat down with Magnus to delve into his passion for HR tech, his observations on industry evolution over the past four years, and his vision for the future of the recruitment market.
Why did you start in the HR tech industry?
I've always been interested in innovation and technology, and after completing my bachelor's in entrepreneurship and innovation, I wanted to enter an industry where these themes are central. There are a lot of new and exciting things happening with frequent changes in the HR world, and it's an exciting journey to be a part of.
What have been your biggest challenges so far?
Having enough knowledge about the entire area because the HR industry is so broad and encompasses so much. The biggest challenge is keeping up with the latest developments since the industry is constantly changing. I want to be up to date with news so that I am relevant in conversations with HR professionals.
How has the recruitment market changed from 2020 to 2024?
From our perspective, people are more open to new solutions and receptive to something new. People are more eager to learn and seek advice, expertise, and assistance. There is also more willingness to try new things, and concerning advertising materials, more and more people are moving away from the traditional methods. Recruiting is becoming more and more difficult because it's not as easy to find the expertise. If one is not willing to try and fail or try new things, they will never succeed. So, we see that people are more interested in simpler processes, for example dropping requirements like CVs and applications.
Are there any trends you have seen emerging, such as the use of technology?
There is more digitization and machine learning, while people are also more data-driven. AI and platform algorithms are improving, so people should have more trust in today's algorithms. There are also more advertising platforms that provide a greater opportunity to get the message across. Recruitment systems aim to become a total provider of advertising, for channel selection, archiving, onboarding, offboarding, and reference checks.
Based on this, where do you think the recruitment market is heading?
Processes are becoming simpler and more automated, but it's harder to draw a definite conclusion because it's more challenging to track and preserve data. So, one must dive into it and trust machines, AI, and algorithms, and one must align with the development.
The HR role has also changed significantly. It plays a bigger role in companies' expansion strategies, and many must participate in marketing and branding internally and externally.
What advice do you have for those actively recruiting?
Be curious and open to new things and advice. Be active in trends and with others in the HR industry, and be good at leveraging each other. Streamline processes that can be streamlined. And for those actively recruiting: candidates are not sitting around waiting for your job. If you're struggling to recruit, start with yourselves. How can you adjust yourselves and how can you promote yourselves as an employer to make people want to work for you? That's where it needs to start.
